National Radon Action Month

Kyle LockardKyle Lockard wants to be a “Ghostbuster” of sorts for your home. He knows there is something deadly lurking in your house that can kill you. He also knows he can help you fix it.

Kyle is one of Ohio Basement Authority’s experienced inspectors who specializes in radon. In light of January being National Radon Action Month, Kyle and the entire Ohio Basement Authority team would like to encourage you to take control of your health.

“One thing I really want to do is dispel the myth that radon is not real,” Kyle said. “I hear that a lot from people. It is real, and we’re here to address it. And it’s not your fault. It is because of the soil gases that can change.”

Radon is a naturally occurring gas produced from the breakdown of uranium and radium in the soil. This gas is present in homes around the country, and it can infiltrate living environments through a variety of means.Radon on the Periodic Table of Elements Some of these include cracks in the basement floor, sump pits, and dirt crawl spaces.

Radon cannot be seen, smelled or tasted, but its effects can be fatal. Radon is a leading cause of lung cancer, second only to smoking, and exposure to this gas contributes to more than 20,000 annual deaths.

“But it is a controllable health risk and something we can solve,” Kyle said.

Radon is measured in picocuries per liter (pCi/L), and the Environmental Protection Agency strongly recommends mitigating for radon when a home’s levels are 4 pCi/L and above. Radon is not safe at any level, but the best thing you can do to help protect your health and the health of your family is to have a reliable radon mitigation system installed by the experts at Ohio Basement Authority.

We are licensed through the State of Ohio, and we use the best mitigation practices as part of the National Radon Defense network of more than 140 companies throughout the country.

Radon mitigation systems create healthier homes.“We want to become the authority on radon testing and mitigation because we do it the best, we do it the most, and we have lots of experience,” Kyle said. “I’m in more than 500 homes a year, and we do 12 to 15 (mitigation system) installs per week. We’re using the best quality products, including the best (ventilation) fan, which is made in the USA.”

When you choose to work with Ohio Basement Authority, you become part of our family, and we genuinely care about you and the health of your living environment.

“When you get mitigation done in your home, it’s something that works immediately,” Kyle said. “And we will not give up and walk away. If the post-installation test is high, we will do whatever it takes at no extra cost to get the level below the EPA guidance. We are creating a path of least resistance for the radon, and a path to a healthier home.”
