It is common for older homes to have their quirks and require numerous maintenance projects. This includes addressing and enhancing the home’s structural integrity.
As a house in Athens, OH, has been handed down through a family for almost 200 years, each owner has taken steps to maintain the home. During the past year, the current owners noticed some areas of the floor were sagging and uneven.
The owners wanted to address this problem once and for all, so they began to research potential repairs. After seeing Ohio Basement Authority’s TV ads, the owners were motivated to contact us to learn more about how we could help them. They met with Inspector Steve Davis who evaluated the condition of the home and its support system. He pointed out the light-duty supports that were failing to adequately stabilize the home, and he recommended one type of our many reliable foundation repair solutions.
One of our crews, led by Foreman Milton Castro, installed several SmartJacks throughout the basement.
Light-duty jack posts like the ones in the basement often are installed on top of a concrete block that rests on the ground. These posts are not very stable, cannot support much weight, and can easily rust and corrode. The SmartJacks we installed are made of galvanized steel, which enhances their durability and makes them resistant to rust, corrosion and rot.
The SmartJacks permanently stabilize the above floors and help raise them back to the proper level. They also are designed to prevent further settling. If any settling occurs, however, the SmartJacks can easily be adjusted. The SmartJack system also can support vertical loads exceeding 60,000 lbs.
The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing their forever home will be a safe and stable living environment because of these trustworthy repairs.
