Job Stories From Amanda, OH
Stabilizing a Settling Foundation Wall in Amanda, OH

After living in her house for many years, a homeowner in Amanda, OH, recently began to notice cracks and gaps in one of her foundation walls. These signs of foundation failure and settlement greatly concerned the homeowner, and she wanted to have them fixed once and for all.

She started to research how to best address these issues and she found information about Ohio Basement Authority online. She was eager to contact us to learn more about how we could help her. She met with one of our inspectors who assessed the condition of the wall, and he then recommended one type of our many reliable foundation repair solutions.

One of our crews installed several Push Piers underneath the problematic foundation wall by driving them deep into the soil. These heavy-duty, galvanized piers permanently stabilize the foundation and offer the best opportunity to lift it back to level. The crew also installed new exterior drainage lines in this area, as well.

The homeowner now has peace of mind knowing this reliable repair process has helped her create a safe and structurally sound living environment.

Egress Window Installation in Amanda, OH

Before using some of the finished areas in their basement as livable space, homeowners in Amanda, OH, wanted to make sure their home was up to code.

According to the International Code for One-and Two-Family Dwellings, all habitable spaces, including basements, are required to have at least one operational emergency escape or means of egress. This means an egress window must be installed.

The homeowners were eager to contact Ohio Basement Authority after glancing at our website. They met with one of our inspectors who confirmed the necessity of egress window systems, and then they were eager for one of our crews to install these systems outside two adjacent basement rooms.

After removing some of the drywall and excavating the area outside the intended window locations, our crew carefully cut into the block foundation wall to make room for the new window systems. The new windows’ all-vinyl frames are rust-resistant, and the double-pane glass is energy-efficient.

Lightly-colored window wells were installed outside the windows, which allows more natural light into the basement. Durable clear covers were attached to the wells to enhance safety as well as keep leaves, debris and precipitation out of the window wells.

The homeowners are happy to have an updated basement window system that enhances the safety and appearance of their home.

SaniDry Dehumidifier Helps Control Humidity in a Church Basement in Amanda, OH

During the last several years, parishioners of a church in Amanda, OH, have noticed issues with moisture and humidity, particularly in the basement of the building. There also were signs of efflorescence on the basement walls. Efflorescence is from minerals in the concrete, mortar, or soil that dissolve in water and remain behind when the water evaporates off the surface of the wall or floor. It manifests as white powder or crystals, and is sometimes confused with mold.

The basement is used for various classes and gatherings, including hosting a local Boy Scout troop. Because this area is often used, the parishioners and church board wanted to make sure it would be healthy for all visitors.

A member of the church board contacted Ohio Basement Authority after learning about our company online, and he was interested to see how we could help create a healthier environment. The basement was not leaking and it did not have any structural issues, so our inspector recommended installing a dehumidifier.

One of our crews installed the SaniDry XP dehumidifier in the church basement. This high-performance, efficient system will eliminate damp, musty odors in the basement once and for all by drying and filtering the air. It also helps control moisture and humidity.

The church board and members can breathe easier knowing this reliable system was installed to create a cleaner and healthier environment.

Permanently Waterproofing a Leaking Basement in Amanda, OH

After living in their house for several years, homeowners in Amanda, OH, began to investigate the process of selling their home. Before putting the house on the market, the owners knew various repairs needed to be completed within the home. This included addressing the leaking basement. Water seemed to seep through the block foundation walls, leaving small puddles and minor damage behind.

The owners wanted to address this issue once and for all, so they began to research potential repair methods and companies. They were motivated to contact Ohio Basement Authority after seeing one of our TV ads, and they were eager to meet with one of our highly trained inspectors to discuss a permanent repair solution.

The owners were equally excited for one of our repair crews to install some of our trustworthy basement waterproofing products. These included the WaterGuard interior drainage system and SuperSump sump pump. Any seeping water will be intercepted by the sub-floor WaterGuard system and directed to the SuperSump. This power sump pump system will then pump the water safely out of the basement and away from the home’s foundation.

The sump pump discharge line was directed outdoors, and this line was tied into a new downspout conductor line that was installed and directed to a pond at the edge of the property.

The homeowners now have peace of mind knowing these reliable installations have helped create living environment that will be healthy and dry for the next owners.

Creating a Safe and Healthy Crawl Space in Amanda, OH

A home in Amanda, OH, was built in 2012 and an addition was built in 2014. Even though it was so new, the owners were still experiencing some issues with the crawl space, which was not encapsulated or insulated. The crawl space had gravel floors, it was dirty, and not well-insulted. They called us to take care of these problems and prevent future ones like dampness from happening.

One of our certified inspectors traversed the crawl space to determine the best repair methods. He explained the CleanSpace and SilverGlo systems, which would check the desired repairs off the homeowners' list.

CleanSpace is a 20-millimeter-thick plastic liner which is designed to encapsulate crawl spaces and keep out moisture, dirt, pests, and even radon gas! It's white color brightens the space and gives it a clean look.

SilverGlo is a series of silver panels which have a high level of heat retention, so they insulate the space well. They also are waterproof!

The production crew installed these two products, as well as spray foam and drainage matting for added insulating and cushioning. Drainage matting also is good for leveling rough gravel floors.

The homeowners are happy with the results, and they can now fully enjoy the home they built along with the addition and a safe, dry, and healthy crawl space.

I have a prefab home(30x75) that is 20 years old. It is permanently set on pilings under the interior of the home. My problem is when installed, the contractor put concrete block all the way around the home as "skirting". The home itself does not set on these blocks. These blocks are cracking and in some places caving in towards the inside of the home. I need someone competent to repair these as soon as possible. The blocks are on a solid footer and are only 4 blocks high. Can you help with this or maybe recommend someone who can? Thanks, Dick Preston I am located about 5 miles due east of Tarlton and about 10 miles southwest of Lancaster.

Approximately 2,000 square feet. Fiberglass insulation is falling down. Approximately 500 square feet has chicken wire to hold it up. It is a mess under the house!!! Additionally, there isn't enough room to actually crawl on hands and knees. This is a modular home on block foundation. I want all the insulation removed and the ground cleaned up. I want new insulation installed as well as a vapor barrier. The vapor barrier may need to be raised as the ground holds water on the surface in puddles.
