Rob Jennings and his crew were super per nice and professional in the worst of conditions. They left our house clean while in and out dozens of times and tracking through snow mud and ice. Looking forward to not worrying about sumo and drainage line issues.

Your inspector, Judd Bowers, was knowledgeable, informative and extremely helpful. He pointed out the problem was not in my crawl space,as I originally thought, and did not try to push me into expensive and unnecessary work.He also pointed out the real source of the problem and told me how it could be resolved. Can't say enough good things about him and how helpful he was to me. I wold definitely call on Ohio Basement Authority again if needed.

Everything You Get from Ohio Basement Authority

Our comprehensive basement finishing package uses a suite of industry-leading, moisture-resistant products.

Most remodeling contractors and DIY enthusiasts use materials not designed for basement use, such as wood studs, paper-faced gypsum board, and plywood floor sheathing. When these products come into contact with even a small amount of moisture, they quickly degrade and promote mold growth.

Finishing Your Basement Ohio Basement Authority Way

We pay meticulous attention to detail and cleanliness. Our experienced craftsmen skillfully handle complex layouts, ductwork, electrical tasks, plumbing, heating, and ventilation. We manage every aspect—from the highest landing to the deepest corner of your basement. Here’s how we do it:

Step 1: Remove Old Materials

We start fresh. Before installation, any old, damaged, or worn-out materials must be removed. Drywall, wood, linoleum flooring—we carefully remove all the old basement finishing materials.

Step 2: Update Waterproofing Measures

Our next step is the most important. We ensure your waterproofing system is up to date properly functioning.

Step 3: Install Staircases, Windows, & Wells

After the old materials are removed and waterproofing measures are implemented, we typically prepare the basement stairs for finishing.

If your project includes basement windows, egress windows, or basement window wells, we will proceed with their installation.

Once these features are in place, we can accurately determine the amount of material needed for your walls.

Step 4: Install Wall System & Doors

Next, we move to the basement walls, installing fire-blocking materials and the wall panels, accounting for the placement of windows, electrical outlets, and light switches.

Finally, we fit doors that are suitable for basements on closets and between rooms.

Step 5: Install Drop Ceiling & Lighting

Next, we prepare the girders and beams to fit our wire frames. Then, we install the crown molding and hang the dropped ceiling tiles. These tiles are carefully fitted around vents, lights, and other obstacles.

Step 6: Place Flooring & Underlayment

Once the walls and ceiling are installed, we sweep the area and lay the finished flooring. This process requires neither grout nor adhesives, allowing immediate use.

Step 7: Add Trim & Finishing Touches

Once the major steps are complete, we add trim (with several design options available) and any requested shelving, TV mounts, or wall-mounted lights.

Each basement we finish is unique, tailored by you and for you.

Common Roadblocks to Finishing Your Basement

Your basement represents up to one half of your total living space (and its resale value). Moisture issues in the basement affect the whole house.

Therefore, it’s essential to comprehensive basement waterproofing measures before finishing. Without it, water intrusion can undermine the work, waste money and potentially damage your home.

Ohio Basement Authority, in partnership with The Basement Guys, ensures all waterproofing measures are updated from the outset, ensuring a smooth basement project.

FAQs

Basement finishing is an excellent investment. It enhances the comfort and property value of your home. To ensure a safe, healthy, and permanent outcome, it’s best to leave basement finishing to the pros.

Basement wall waterproofing should be performed before starting the finishing process. This preventative measure protects against moisture seepage, mold, mildew, and wood rot, ensuring your basement remains permanently dry and healthy.

Some consider basement finishing a DIY project, but we don’t recommend it. Basement finishing requires specialized skills like electrical work, drywalling, and knowledge of your foundation to ensure a long-lasting and safely implemented result.
