So, you’re tired of looking at that crack in the driveway, and tripping over that sunken concrete slab on your patio, porch, or pool deck. These concrete issues are all too common throughout Ohio and Northern Kentucky. But they will only grow worse over time, so now is the time to take action with a permanent concrete repair solution.

Concrete Lifting Solutions

There are many industry-standard methods of renewing your concrete. Let’s take a look at all of them so you can have a better understanding of what may work for your home.

Long-Lasting Solutions

  • Polyurethane Foam Injections

Polyurethane foam is a cost-effective and much less invasive concrete lifting solution compared to older methods or repair. While slab jacking and mudjacking require larger drilling and a messier fill concoction, polyurethane foam only requires a penny-sized drill hole where foam can be cleanly inserted. This foam fills the voids left beneath your concrete, restoring it to its original position , and will continue to support it for years to come.

Since the foam is so lightweight, it will not weigh your concrete slab or the underlying soil down over time like mudjacking. Polyurethane foam typically takes about 15 minutes to cure after injection, meaning you can safely walk on your renewed driveway or sidewalk on the day of your scheduled repair.

At Ohio Basement Authority, PolyRenewal™ is our polyurethane foam solution of choice, as it surpasses the rest in quality. PolyRenewal™ is water-resistant, making it quite the match for Mother Nature. It provides a support system for your concrete that’s able to withstand many of the elements that caused your concrete damage in the first place.

Since it is unyielding to water, it won’t erode over time like the soil that washed away from your concrete. PolyRenewal™ injections will also remain safely unaffected by any yard chemicals like pesticides or weed killer. In doing so, it wards these chemicals off from your home or pool.

Other Temporary Repairs

  • Concrete Replacement

One option is to remove the existing concrete and start over by repouring slabs. They may look like new for a while, but the problematic soil and other issues still remain. That means the concrete will eventually end up sustaining the same damage as before.

In some severe cases of concrete damage, your driveway, sidewalk, or foundation slab may not be salvageable at all, and an entire replacement is needed. This may be needed in the case of frost heave, which is common during icy cold Ohio winters. Our experts recommend concrete replacements only in worse-case scenarios. In many cases, concrete can be restored close to its original glory.

mudjacking
  • Traditional Mudjacking

Mudjacking is the traditional concrete lifting solution, although fading from popularity in recent years. It’s similar to polyurethane injections, only it’s much messier and ultimately less effective. Installers drill large holes into your concrete and inject a messy mud slurry into your driveway or walkway. This slurry also has a longer cure time of 24 to 72 hours.

This solution is also much heavier than the lightweight polyurethane foam and tends to weigh down your concrete and soil over time. This means that eventually, you’ll have to revisit mudjacking repairs to your concrete.
