"I had basement work done by OBA in 2015, removal of French drain in a house that was built in 1932. Wall guard, triple safe sump pump, and dehumidifier installed. Best thing I ever did. March 2026 experienced @ 12 hour power outage. Sump pump failed(10+years old). Had a OBA service call that determined sump pump had to be replaced. That size pump no longer available, and a larger pump (AquaStop triple pump)would require enlarging the pit. The battery had been replaced 2 years prior, but had failed with the pump not working. The service was scheduled and I was not charged for the new battery & case, since it was only 2 yrs. old. They also gave me a 3 yr. maintenance extension, at a discounted price. 03/31/26 a 3 man crew arrived on time, covered everything with plastic and completed the job in 3 hours. Did a great job cleaning up and replacing the furniture that had to be moved. Excellent work, Tracyn, Ali and Blu."

Types of Concrete Damage in Coshocton

Common Causes of your Concrete Problems in Coshocton

Poor Soil Compaction

The soil beneath the concrete may not have been compacted enough during construction. Over time, the loose soil shifts and settles, causing the concrete to sink or crack.

Soil Erosion

Water from rain, sprinklers, or poor drainage can wash away the soil under the slab. This creates empty spaces, making the concrete sink or become uneven.

Climate Conditions

When saturated, clay soil expands, and when dry, it contracts. These constant changes in moisture levels weaken the support beneath the concrete.

Freeze-Thaw Cycles

Water in the soil freezes and expands during winter, then thaws and contracts. This movement puts pressure on the concrete, leading to cracks or lifting over time.

Tree Roots

Roots from nearby trees or shrubs can grow underneath concrete. As they grow, they push up on the slab, causing uneven surfaces or cracks.

Heavy Loads

Parking heavy vehicles or placing large items on concrete can compact the soil underneath. Weak soil cannot often support the weight, causing the slab to sink or crack.

Poor Drainage

Excessive rainwater or water pooling near concrete slabs can lead to soil washout, weakening the soil under the concrete.

FAQs

Cost for concrete lifting varies widely due to factors such as slab size, condition, and site specifics. A local evaluation can provide accurate estimates and appropriate solutions for your concrete lifting needs. Consider the benefits of slab leveling and void filling for effective repairs.

Foam concrete lifting is a long-lasting solution, often retaining its effectiveness for many years. The expanding foam used in slab leveling is durable and resistant to moisture, which helps maintain the stability of your repaired areas. Regular inspections can ensure continued performance over time.

Water often pools due to improper drainage or soil erosion around your slab. Settled concrete and voids under slabs allow water to accumulate, leading to potential soil expansion and further sinking. Consider addressing drainage issues and using polyurethane foam to stabilize these areas.

Coshocton's soil and weather conditions contribute significantly to concrete issues like cracks and sinking. Expansive clay soil and freeze-thaw cycles can cause slabs to shift and settle over time. Soil erosion and heaving should be managed to protect your concrete surfaces effectively.

Lifting can significantly reduce the risk of future sinking or cracking by stabilizing the slab and addressing underlying voids. However, monitoring soil conditions and maintaining proper drainage is essential to prevent further issues. Consider consulting a professional for tailored advice and inspection.
